Tale is a week or so away, but I'm getting through the photos. About half of them are already up on my flickr page.

I have to say, the ship is far more luxurious than I thought for an expedition ship. I thought it would be much more military like.
Lovely photos! Looking forward to hearing all about it.

Chech: Loved your photos especially of the women holding the Political Asylum signs. I agree that the ship is much finer than I thought it would be. One of the things that comes through on your photos is that it seems everyone got along and I'm sure that friendships were formed to last long after the tour was over. Looking forward to your tour tale. Purvis

plane2catch: Returned home Sunday nite and have slept ever since. I guess being up for almost 21hours from the time I awoke the morning I left London until I arrived back here in Edmonton was a wee bit much. Had a wonderful time and saw all the sites I had not seen over previous trips to London. The weather was great with the temps in the 15-17C range so no complaints there. Arrived back home to snow. Must admit I don't miss the crowds especially in the tube system . I really don't know how a person could handle that everyday and still maintain ones sanity. Saw Les Miserables at the Queens theater and it was spectacular . I have finally decided that my travel days are over. At 82 I am ready to just settle down and watch my many trips unfold on my TV screen. There comes a time when you know when to quit and it has arrived for me. Had 15 Trafalgar tours, 2 trips to Cuba, 4 to Florida and 2 to Hawaii over the last 12years so can't complain. Purvis

I’m glad you had a great trip Purvis, but I’m sorry to hear that this is the end of travelling for you. At least you have some wonderful memories from your past trip, and you can still travel vicariously through all of us!

Tiffany: Glad to hear that your new treatments have begun. Praying that you handle the drugs well and can continue to carry on your normal activities without any blips. I plan on traveling as you say reading others tour tales and especially your next tour tale. Purvis

Hi Purvis, so far I’m doing well. I have some minor side-effects from the drugs, but not enough to stop me from working for living life like normal.
I’m hoping to travel in the Spring, and, if it I do, I’ll be writing a tale. I plan on booking both of next year’s trips in January, and I’m hoping I won’t have to cancel this time around!

The one I had to cancel due to illness was also Hawaiian Discovery which I took 2years later and came home with pneumonia. I guess I wasn't supposed to go on that trip after all . Purvis

Congratulations Purvis, you really have a lot of stamina, I just finished my 12th Trafalgar, and I am ready to give up touring, at least by land, my daughter is trying to convince on doing a river cruise next year, I might give it a try, this particular Danube cruise goes to parts of Europe that I have longed to see, if not all of, at least a good portion (From Budapest to Romania), and if I am lucky I might fly business. I am with you, it takes longer and longer to recuperate from the long flights, jet lag, and of course the occasional "bug" that it seems we can't avoid. Keep well, Purvis, hope the winter is mild this year.

Hi Tiffany, will be booking your trips with Trafalgar? Trafalgar here offers a gold seal protection insurance last time I checked it was $99. It gives you the option to cancel your booking for any reason and you get your money back including your deposit and if on tour and need to return home you get some money back. I'm not sure about flights if booked through Trafalgar though. I haven't purchased it myself and not sure if it's offered in Canada, but just wondered considering the uncertainty with your treatment plan.

I am looking forward to read "your version" Chech. This passage seems much more interesting than the one I did in the South Atlantic, Tierra del Fuego, Magellan, Cape Horn, etc, similar in many ways, same type of ship, excursions, etc. but with more severe weather?

LOL...yeah. The restaurant was pretty sparse on those rought days....meanwhile I was up on the bridgewing getting pics and video as we plowed through the 8m waves. (Watch that video through to the end... And yes, Californian....I chose the Arctic over the Horn and Antarctic area because it had so much more to offer....thousands of kilometres of shoreline, multiple historical sites, community visits, wildlife, icebergs, mountains, the aurora, fjords, a visit to the ice cap and more. And it was a part of Canada I hadn't seen yet. The weather was severe a few times but the restaurant staff just kind of chuckled at it....they work both polar cruises and said the passage to Antarctica through the Roaring 40s is much worse. Kinda makes me want to do it...LOL

I will look into this gold seal protection insurance. Right now, if I book and cancel prior to 45 days before the tour leaves, I will get all of my money back, except for my $200 deposit. Trafalgar does give you 5 years though to use that deposit towards another tour, so I’m not that concerned about losing the deposit. The only reason I lost money for cancelling my Eastern Europe trip is because I cancelled after the 45 day cut-off. The gold seal protection insurance would be good in that circumstance, and I’m going to ask my travel agent to look into it.

Okay...here's the start of the tale. It's an overview of the ship, the daily routine and other items that would have been repetitive in a day to day tale. I may be adding points to those two posts as I start to write the rest of it which will be centered on each landing. I should be able to get the rest going pretty fast after tomorrow as I have to mow my lawn...in October! The middle of October!

Hi Bet, I spoke to my travel agent today, and she advised that Trafalgar does not offer the gold seal protection insurance in Canada. She did tell me about an insurance policy that they offer that allows people to cancel up to 24 hours prior to leaving for the trip for any reason, and get 75% back. Even with a pre-existing condition, I would still qualify. She wasn’t sure how much it would cost, and the price depends on the person’s age and the length of trip, etc. She would have to price it out for me when I’m ready to book my trips. I have a feeling that it will be expensive, but, going forward, I may have to pay extra for this type of insurance, given my health issues and treatment schedule.

I have the gold level insurance through my credit card, and I have started a claim to see if I can get the money I didn’t get back from Trafalgar from them. Going forward, however, I may need additional insurance, as I have a pre-existing condition, and I may not qualify for insurance through them anymore. I will have to call them to find out when I book my next trip.
