Thank you Bet and Purvis. I am trying to stay hopeful, and I am holding up as best I can. I will know more when I see my doctor next Tuesday. I am anxious to start this new treatment, and I’m hoping it will work!

My friends have all arrived in Vienna safe and sound, and spent the day touring the city via the Hop-On-Hop-Off bus. As a joke, they sent me pictures of a Barbie Snow-White at various sites, who is supposed to be representative of me. As an FYI, I’ve been told that I kind of look like snow white due to my dark hair and pale skin. I’m sad I can’t be there with them, but I am glad they all have a good time.

Thanks Bet. I’m holding up as best I can, and I hope I can go on this tour someday. It’s just sad that I’ll have to go on my own, since my friends will have already done this tour. Oh well.

We are off to London for about a week only. We got a super special airfare on WestJet airlines because of our son-in-law, who works there and the last date was Dec 17, we will be leaving Dec 9, which is the earliest date we could leave because of the numerous medical appointments my husband has. He just got an insulin pump, so he has weekly appointments, for 6 weeks before we leave. We will be trying out the Plus seats, which have more legroom and food will be included. Their regular seats only provides food for a fee, which is ridiculous for a 9.5 hour flight. We will be staying in an aparthotel by Earls Court station. We plan on visiting museums mostly and if the weather is not too rainy maybe Hampton Court.

My son and I were in London for 9days last month and had great weather. May I suggest that if at all possible go to Hampton Court as it is really spectacular. Having been to London several times (last year also 9days) there is so much to see that you'll be returning time and time again. The weather is a main concern with outside venues . This last month we visited Bletchley Park, Tower of London, Kew Gardens, Temple Church, The Wallace Collection (Art Gallery),Southwark Cathedral,The Imperial War Museum and St. Martin's In The Field Church, right across the Road from the National Art Gallery (Trafalgar Square). We also attended Les Mes . All in all my son says we walked 53.5 miles in the 9 days(according to his fitbit) . We took the tube from Heathrow to our hotel (near Waterloo Station) for 3pound 10 and it was easy. Unfortunately I had prepaid a taxi to pick us up which didn't appear. May I suggest you download the London Tube map and decide ahead of time which lines you will take to get to your chosen venues. Also you can purchase Oyster Cards here in Canada before you leave which makes it possible to just get on the tube when you land. By the way I'll be 82 next month so if I can walk these distances and at 4'11" use the tube anyone can. Must say though "Watch the GAP" between the tube and platform did present a problem but I managed. There are mugs in the stores with this expression on them. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask me or others that have been to London. Purvis

Thanks Purvis. We have been to London twice in the last 14 years. The first time we had all 3 kids with us, 14 years ago on their school break at the end of march. It was one of the best family holidays. No complaints and they were all teenagers. We saw a lot then, went to Windsor Castle just before it closed due to the death of the Queen mother. The kids enjoyed the ship, HMS Belfast close to Tower Bridge, Tower of London, the Globe, St Pauls and Westminster Cathedral and more. My husband has been 3 times to the Imperial War Museum, I have been twice. We love London but I think the last time was 10 years ago. DH and i also took the train to Portsmouth. We also took a boat to Greenwich. We will go to the National Gallery again but were thinking of the Wallace collection as well. We have never been to Kew Gardens or Hampton Court so they are on the list. I had not thought of Bletchley park, I have to research that, thanks for that tip. We saw the movie and also a program on PBS. We will arrive at Gatwick, so we will take the train to Victoria Station and either take a cab or the tube to Earls Court, it depends on the weather and how we feel. I have been several times to London so I feel very comfortable there. I don't think we will do as much walking as you since DH has trouble with his knees. My Fitbit just stopped working a few days ago, hopefully I can fix it, i don't really want to buy a new one. I will also look into the Oyster card, I have never used one.

The Oyster card is the least expensive and most practical way to travel in the London area. When your card is running low you can top it up at most if not all tube stations. Last year we went to Greenwich but since at the time I was having some trouble with my feet didn't go up to the prime-meridian area. Another item I prepaid but we were unable to use was entry tickets into the Houses of Parliament (due to my son getting some bad food the nite before) . You can book the tickets online so as not to have to stand in line. We did manage later that day when my son was feeling better to visit the British High Courts on Parliament Hill (free entry). Right around the corner from the National Art Gallery is the National Portrait Gallery (both are free entry as is St. Martin's in the Field. ) Purvis

Finally it's time and I'm leaving tonight for my trip to India, I can't wait to see India especially the Taj Mahal. Im then going home to NZ for Christmas and New Years. 6 weeks holiday and what a relief with no more work until mid January, it's been a long year work wise but it's all worth it when days like today arrive.
