20 ~~~ Travel and Leisure ~ Landmarks + Monuments ~~~ ~ "Landmarks have a way of getting stuck in our brains before we ever see them. ~ Take the Eiffel Tower: its singular spire has been reproduced on countless postcards and t-shirts, and featured so often in TV and movies that it’s instantly recognizable, even for those who have never set foot in Paris. ~ Landmarks and monuments like this become synonymous with a destination— think New York’s Empire State Building or the Sydney Opera House—while also functioning as a top attraction. ~ When it’s time to cross these iconic sights off your bucket list, consider Travel + Leisure’s expertly written, constantly updated guides as your key to finding the world’s most famous monuments and landmarks." ~ = www.travelandleisure.com/attractions/landmarks-monuments

Here’s What the U.S.-Mexico Border Actually Looks Like
Before Mexican photographer Pablo López Luz started shooting aerial photography of the border between Mexico and the United States, there was no President Trump. Talk of building a wall to further divide the two nations hadn’t yet surfaced as a hot button issue in the U.S. Presidential election. By the time Donald Trump announced his candidacy in June 2015, López Luz’s latest art book project, Frontera (Newwer Editorial/Toluca Editions; November 2016), was nearly complete and is now a very timely subject in the wake of the new White House administration.

23 ~~~ T & L ~ Assorted Articles and Ideas ~ Three The 10 Best Small Towns to Retire in the U.S. Retirees can enjoy the simple joys of life in these quaint towns.
There's something about small towns that inspires nostalgia and the feeling that traditions of the past still exist on their quaint main streets. Many retirees look for that atmosphere, whether it recalls their own history or a long-imagined ideal place to settle down. There are also practical reasons to move to a small town upon retirement, including affordability, safety, wellness, culture, and comfort. Although not every town offers the ideal combination of these factors, there are many that meet the needs of retirees seeking a simpler life.
Definitions of small towns in terms of population vary from under 10,000 to several times that. Sometimes, towns are considered "small" based on their appearance, lifestyle, or sense of community. In creating this list of small towns, we looked at a variety of qualities (including cost of living, crime data, healthcare availability, senior housing, activities, transportation, and attractions and activities in the area) with the understanding that "best" is ultimately a matter of taste.
Here are some of America's best small towns to consider for retirement or perhaps even for a weekend visit. www.travelandleisure.com/trip-ideas/senior-travel/best-small-towns-to-retire-us20 September 2021

24 ~~~ T & L ~ Assorted Articles & Ideas ~ Four I've Spent My Retirement Traveling — Here Are 9 Resorts Retirees Will Love Whether you're looking for a relaxing retreat or an active getaway, I have ideas for you.
You're retired — and vaccinated — and it's time to treat yourself to a well-deserved and probably long-awaited vacation. With no time constraints, you can plan a stay of a few weeks, and you might appreciate the convenience of a destination resort that lets you arrive, unpack, and enjoy dining and most activities on site.
Like many retirees, you're game to try something novel or pick up a new hobby, and you want to continue (or start) focusing on your well-being and health. The right mix of relaxation and activities, opportunities for time outdoors, pampering, and fun should complete the picture. A place designed for adults might be ideal, and perhaps a (short) visit and some entertainment for the grandkids and family would work well, especially if your get-togethers have been limited over the past year.
We've searched for a few places based on these amenities, and we have suggestions for you here.
We hope at least one will spark your vacation imagination and get your planning started. www.travelandleisure.com/trip-ideas/senior-travel/best-resorts-for-retirees22 August 2021

25 ~~~ The 25 Best Cities in the World South Asia and Mexico had an impressive showing this year, with readers' top 10 including three Mexican cities (including the No. 1 spot!) and four South Asian cities (across Laos, India, Indonesia, and Thailand). Udaipur, on India's picturesque Lake Pichola, nabbed second place, up from last year, when it ranked No. 7. One reader described it as "enchanting," while another raved that it's "by far the most beautiful city in India." The other Indian city to make the list was Jaipur (No. 17), often referred to as the Pink City because of the remarkable pink buildings that line its streets.
Also in South Asia, Chiang Mai (No. 9) beat out Bangkok (No. 10) by just a hair, with readers specifically describing Chiang Mai as "more laid-back" and "less crowded" than Bangkok. Many of our readers were lured to Chiang Mai by the elephant sanctuary, but stayed for the "amazing people with a deep love for their way of life and cultures," as one respondent put it. www.travelandleisure.com/worlds-best/cities?08 September 2021
