An easy to navigate travel forum is what all present and future travelers need instead of a complicated one such as the one Trafalgar is introducing via twitter and facebook which many people don't need or want in this day of fast communications. Not all persons needing answers to their particular questions in regards to their travel destination are registered on twitter or facebook and in the recent disclosures of hackings of these sites will not use them. The Travel-Forum is a needed and easy replacement tool for Trafalgar's soon to be removed travel site. Purvis

I'm in, but I don't know how to post or transfer my avatar from the Trafalgar board. Help? Above, the the grey-brown header, you'll see the menu - look for Profile. In there, look to the top right and you'll see Edit Profile. Click on Avatar. Then look at the list under "Choose how your avatar will display." Since I wanted my own, I picked the second one (uploaded one) In the window just to the right of that, you should see the option to browse your computer for a picture. Does that work? And you posted fine. To just add more posts, you click on Reply at the bottom. If you want to quote someone else's post, click on Quote to the far right of their name. Then move below the quoted text that is in it's own 'bubble' and type away. (Experiment abit and you'll catch on no problem)

Thanks, Chech. Ive got it. Unfortunately the pic I selected (same as Trafalgar) is too large. I'll have to figure out making it smaller. Think I used Picasa before. No time now. I'll get it sooner or later.

Take a copy of the photo you posted to facebook from your photos page. FB automatically reduces the photos before it displays them. It will be small enough to post here (under 1 MB).

So glad this Forum has been started. I feel like I have come home. Familiar names and sites. I have looked at Trafalgar Facebook and posted a couple of times but it is very hard to find anything as it is all mixed in together. Much prefer this structure.

I haven't been on the TTBB for a while and the first thing I saw was the closure notice from TTWeb. Panic . . . Panic . . . Panic over (phew)
Over the years the board has been a great source of information. I like the easy informal look of this new forum and will keep popping back regularly.
It is also great to see many of the "names" from the TTFB already registrered here.
Cheerio Vicki

All you have to do is put it on facebook in your photo album there (like you would any photo), it will automatically reduce it then you just copy that one back to your computer with a new name and voila! Insta-reducing.

I couldn't do the copying, but I did resize it with pic resizer and added it as an attachment. The add photo button wants a URL.

Yeah, the Add Attachment is the easier solution. I can link to my photos in flickr for the url but it's easier to add it as an attachment. And it can be inserted anywhere in a post so it's great for tales.

I did the pic resizer but then couldn't get it to the profile. Also tried copying a pic from Facebook although not sure just how I was to copy it. Guess I'll just have to o from their avatar selection. Darn.

Hey Oz, Are you able to change the number of attachments permitted per page? I just found that we're limited to three.

Unfortunately, that is one of the drawbacks, Chech. Being a free forum (at this stage), we are accessing this free platform/software and everything is stored on a free server. That means somebody, somewhere is providing this for zero return, so all we get is the basic, vanilla service.
One of those limited features is the amount of data storage, reflected in the number of images that can be attached to a single post. We can choose anything up to three (which I chose), but that's the limit. It can be increased, but that will cost, and it'd come out of my pocket. If it becomes a problem later due to large traffic volume here, I'm prepared to fund this. In the meantime, it's something we will have to engage our ingenuity to devise workarounds. I suspect that more than three images wouldn't be necessary in most instances unless it's a travel tale. Accordingly, the tale can be broken down to perhaps three posts to cover one day of the trip, thereby allowing nine images. Alternatively, maybe we can save images offsite via tinypics etc and post them as links. I'm not so keen on this option because those links can be easily broken.
The image limitation seems to be common among free online forums and it was one of the most important criteria in deciding the type of forum platform. Some don't allow much flexibility at all with embedding images, so I didn't think they'd suit us. If you recall the original Trafalgar forum, only one image could be attached, and it stayed at the bottom of each post. This format seemed to have the best mix of features of simplicity and usability, without too many limitations. I decided it was the best combination that would appeal to our usual method of posting.

Actually, that's a pretty good way around it - to divide a post if one wants to post more than 3 photos per day. I put up a day from my Jordan tour and by using the photo icon, I was able to post more than 3 photos no problem. They're linked to the photos on my flickr page (and they shouldn't break as long as I'm breathing).

Tips & Features - Time Settings
From time to time I will comment on some of the features of this forum format, to help members understand how things work.
With many members likely to reside in North America, Australia and New Zealand it's always a problem deciding which time zone to use without confusing anybody. So rather than play favourites (that's favorites to you USA folk!), we went with GMT (Greenwich Mean Time)/UTC (Coordinated Universal Time). So think of London if you're trying to make sense of the time settings, and add/subtract the hours difference to your location.

I think I have my avatar, but it's too small. Copied from Trafalgar BB, with a little help from my daughter and theirs are smaller. More work to do.

How great to see this forum set up. I was surprised to see the forum closing, and had saved this site, thank goodness!! Thanks so much to Oz-T and Owen for all the info here. You have both been extemely busy!! I had done a Trafalgar tour, and was able to get so much info from many of you when we were planning a trip to Canada/Alaska. Which was the MOST AMAZING tour we have done. It wasn't however a Trafalgar one, so it was not possible to do a tour tale. We are now in the looooong countdown to a tour of eastern europe with a river cruise July 2015, and then a few days in Belgium, then to London (by ourselves ) So good to see so many here. I had just logged onto the old forum, and it's closed So disappointing for their company, so many of us DON'T do facebook and twitter etc, and the forum here is so easy to use.
