Hi Everyone! I'm starting start this thread for those of us, if any, experience a problem navigating around or need help with features of this forum. I thought it would be nice to have a spot where we could bring our specific navigation/how to do questions to! I did have an issue with the edit button which was my reason for instigating this thread but I did a bit of testing and solved my own problem (I'll keep an eye on this thread and if it's not such a good idea...I'll delete it. I don't want to "junk" up this forum with unnecessary threads!)

Is there a way to get to the end of a thread without scrolling through each post?

I haven't noticed one yet but if I click on the forum title on the main forum page or through the Participated button, it takes me directly to the last unread message.

Yes, There is ~~~ Press & Hold "Command" key and just hit the Down Arror or Up Arrow
and
and I will add further "tricks" that I have "test driven" on this forum in last 10days.
Chrome allows me to have 3 or 4 "Travel-Forum" screens open ~~~ "WIP topic in Travel Tales" & PM & Where are All Tales & AN Other & Old IV Forum x 2 or 3 ~~~ Tales & Tips etc etc etc . Handy to prove what works ~~~ Edit a PM ... have not found a way to do it in PM. So write my PM's in my WIP post and save. Then Cut & Paste into PM. WIP has a few posts in the Thread ... Most are just a temp home for actions or PM's or editing a tale.
Note: I am using an iMac Laptop and Chrome web browser ~~~ Whether this makes a difference I do not know.
Testing Other Web Browsers will have to wait a while.
For me, iMac & Chrome ~~~ Works Just Fine Now ~~~

Is there a way to stay logged in without it showing at the bottom that you are logged in?

That is a good question.
It would depend on how the system software was designed.
Only Admin & Oz-T may know or would have to ask the boffins at the Forum system software support centre.
The old TT & IV had a question in profile " Do you want your "Member" name displayed in public ?
Possible, but so many different forums around now.
Over to Admin or Oz-T to provide definitive answer.

Yes, you can hide this if you wish.
Go to ... Profile>Edit Profile>Privacy , then set your name to become invisible. This will ensure that your name doesn't appear on the list when you're logged in. It will appear to staff only (at this stage, me and Admin only).
Having said that, I prefer that members don't use this feature for the time being. If we have too many members becoming invisible (or reading the forum as guests because they didn't log in) the forum will appear to be deserted and that's unlikely to attract discussions. That's one sure way of an early demise of this forum if it doesn't get much activity. However, if members prefer to not be noticed, I will respect their decision.

It's not that I want to hide, it's just I would prefer not to log in and out. I don't want people to think I'm on here 24 hours a day.

I think it will list you as there even if you just leave the site open in a tab. I do that all that time for all my favorite sites, so I have a half dozen tabs always open on top and don't have to constantly looked them up on my bookmarks. If I saw a name listed as logged in a lot, that would be my conclusion.

I actually do what I did on the Trafalgar forum: I log into this forum and stay logged in for most of the day as it sits in the background. Occasionally I'll take a peek to see if there's anyone to chat to, but if not, I'll return to other matters. If I'm likely to be away from my desk for considerable periods I'd log off, rather than give the appearance that I'm here.
Hence, I would appear to be looking at the forum for 8 hours a day when in fact I'm only logged on for that time, drifting in and out whenever I'm not busy with work matters.

Not sure how to navigate this forum yet, and it doesn't help that I am sleep deprived and very tired...just returned from the Best of Finland, Russia and the Baltic States, a great, great, great tour. Not sure if I could post a tale, we saw so much, the details are a little foggy still, besides Nev posted such a wonderful and complete tale that even if I can write one it can't possible be compared...We had the best TD, well above all the others I had in 9 other tours, and I had good ones along the way. His name is Malcolm Macrae, NZ native but lives in Minsk with his Belorussian wife, we met her in Minsk and she baked us apple pie for the stop between Minsk and Vilnius, at the Hill of Cross. What extraordinary part of the world, I am still trying to absorb so much history, so many changes these countries suffered in the last century, and still trying to cope with even more this new century. As soon I have a little rest, wash clothes, go grocery shopping and start feeling "normal" I'll do my best to write and hopefully post a picture or two, although my photo taking skills have not improved at all, (sigh) hope my daughter shares some of hers. Thank you Oz-T for this forum!

Hi Californian,
Welcome back!
Please do write a tour tale. It doesn't matter what anyone else wrote. You would have had your own experience and we would all love to hear about it when you are up to it.

Thank you Tulips...I'll try, now I am not sure why I can't post as Californian, I think I am registered, at one time I saw a long id number but I am afraid I might had deleted it, maybe Oz can email me that number? I will try to find it anyway, I am glad the forum continues...I will look later for your tales and others, hopefully they are still available.

Welcome back from the trip, Californian. And also welcome to the new forum. It'll take a little while for you to become familiar with navigating this board but you'll hopefully see similar aspects to the earlier Trafalgar format. Keep reading the tips etc and ask questions whenever you need to. Your name was reserved when you created it, and I see you've now been able to log on properly. I look forward to your input (after a well-deserved rest after all that travel).

Can someone please direct me to a website to find these avatars? I have looked, but all I have found are photos or actual cartoon characters, which I don't want. I want one in a similar vain to Missie, Denise or Califirnian.

You just have to google the avatar you want. They are the cartoon characters...just a matter of finding one you like. For example, I searched 'travel avatar' in google images and got some similar things...including this cute guy: What are you looking for in an avatar? I have a bit of time today....I can do a bit of searching and suggesting for you.

That's the kind of avatar I want. Looking for kind of an old world, Downtown Abbey travel type thing.

Enjoy being a junior for another 25 posts, Californian. Then you'll become a 'full member'. Notch up 500 posts and you become a 'senior member' - but don't worry, we definitely respect seniors here.

Yes, the features here sure do become handy. I like being able to immediately see which threads have had activity since I last logged in. Some features are also hidden. For example, try typing the word 'the' but accidentally typing the 'h' and 'e' around the wrong way and see what happens.
