I wonder how tourists are affected and managing in Greece right now, hope the hotels are prepared and able to cooperate and exchange money. I think anyone going should have enough euros on hand. Would be interesting to hear from them.

I have a friend there now. She has some cash and has been able to get to an ATM for more but she has notice that shops are starting to not accept credit cards.

According to the news, 60 euros is the max allowed withdraw each day from an ATM, I am sure locals or tourists alike.

Oops, forget that, I just read the 60 euros rule is only for Greeks citizens, foreign nationals, tourists are excepted.

Interesting. Gotta wonder how many cancellations the Greek hotels are getting today.

Plenty, I would expect. Tourists don't like going to places where they're scared of being able to carry too much currency, or be unable to access funds via an ATM.

Oops, forget that, I just read the 60 euros rule is only for Greeks citizens, foreign nationals, tourists are excepted. That sounds fine, but how does an ATM differentiate between a foreign-issued Mastercard and a Greek-issued Mastercard? So many ATMs are now empty that tourists cannot have any comfort regarding being able to withdraw cash. I've just been reading about how a Michigan family had been standing in queues at the ATMs, only to find that cash wasn't being dispensed. Their only option now: leave the country. The really sad thing about this is that the creditors were so close to offering emergency funding when the Marxist Greek government walked out of the meeting. That's what you get when you have immature zealots pretending they know how to govern.
