Has anyone been on Trafalgar’s Highlight’s of Scandinavia costsaver tour? My friend and I are trying to decide if we want to go back to Scotland on their Scotland and Highlands-Islands and Cities tour next year, or if we want to go on this tour. I know Chech went on the first class version of this tour, Scenic Scandinavia and its Fjords, but that tour is much more expensive than the costsaver tour. I’d be interested in hearing from anyone who has done this tour to see if it was a good tour, or if we’d be better doing the first class tour.

Tiffany, I would not do the Highlights of Scandinavia for one very important reason - you don't see any decent fjords on that tour. The only two they mention are Hardangerfjord and "admiring" Sognefjord. The road to Fagernes only gives you a glimpse of one arm of the fjord. The only way to really see Sognefjord is to take the ferry which that tour doesn't do. And it doesn't go to the really impressive Gieranger or do the Flam. Globus has a Norway tour that is shorter and about $200 more I believe, but you see much more of what Norway is famous for and spend a lot less time driving through the Scandinavia forest. www.globusjourneys.ca/tour/scenic-norway/zq/It's Globus so you wouldn't get the past guest discount but there's something on the page about 5% off. I've done 3 tours with Globus' sister company Monograms and they're just like TT. Something to consider, but if you go to Norway you want to do at least three things...see Geiranger, ride the Flam and sail the Sognefjord.

Thanks Chech. I’ll mention this to my friend. I didn’t think I’d want to do a cost-saver tour in this area, however, it’s significantly cheaper, so I thought I’d ask about it. I'll look at the Globus tour, although I think I'd rather stick with Trafalgar.

Yeah. Look around for something else. That tour would really be a waste of money because the only real treat of the whole thing is Bergen. Everything south and east of that is like northern Ontario or coast of Newfoundland. Funny thing is you'd see a better fjord in Newfoundland at Gros Morne that the one on that tour. And looking back, I would consider the Insight tour a better option that the TT Scenic Scandinavia. I went for TT cause it spent more time on the coast but the Insight one spent more time at the area of coast that mattered....Bergen and to the north.

Thanks Chech, I’ll look at the Insight tour, although I’m sure it will be even more expensive! The reason we were looking at the costsaver tour was to save money, but, if the tour isn’t any good, than it’s not worth it. I’m going to ask my friends when I meet them in Croatia if they’d rather go to Scotland in 2018, or go on the Scenic Scandinavia and its Fjords. My other friend likes both tours, and says it’s up to them.

Ohhh...Scotland! Haven't been yet but everyone I speak to just raves about it. I asked some which they would recommend I see first...Scotland or Ireland...and they all said Scotland, hands down. Doing the Scenic Scandinavia would be the best of the three in terms of the cost and what you see. And the optional to the Troll's Road is an absolute must. I see the cost has come down since I did it, too.

I’ve went to Scotland in 2010 when I did the Grand tour of Great Britain and Ireland tour. I really enjoyed it there, and have always wanted to go back. We are thinking of going on the 14 day tour of the cities and highlands. My friend and I are interested in both the Scotland tour and the Scandinavia tour, but can only do one in 2018. Decisions, decisions!
I think the cost of all tours have gone done in 2017. I hope they stay down in 2018.

Oh...that's a nice one. I was thinking about the Grand Tour of Britain but decided that the best way to see the UK was to do each country by itself. Two weeks in Scotland is what I'd want to see as much as possible in one go. There's one for Ireland that I have my eye on. Now, I'm looking for one of England and Wales together...hard to find one that includes Wales.

The Grand Tour of Britain was as good tour, but I felt like I didn't see enough of Scotland while on that tour, which is why I want to go back. I did feel like I saw enough of Ireland, Northern Ireland and England, which the exception of London. I would have liked to have seen more of Wales, but, like you said, there's not many tours that go there. I have a feeling we're gonig to pick the Scotland tour for 2018, but, the Scandinavia one is still an option. If only we could do both!
